Bob Roll wears “Yellow” at last!
Before Lance Armstrong, before carbon fiber, almost even before Lycra - there was Bob Roll. Bob was a member of the now iconic 7-Eleven cycling squad - the FIRST US team to compete in the Tour de France. He was also an integral part of Andy Hampsten's Giro d' Italia win (the first, and so far ONLY American to conquer the Tour of Italy). He has rubbed shoulders (and handlebars) with some of the most noted names in professional cycling including Bernard Hinault, Greg Lemond and Lance Armstrong.
Bobke (as he is known to many) made the transition from road cycling to professional mountain biking, and has now become perhaps one of the most visible television commentators through his participation in the Tour de France coverage team each year.
We caught up with Bob in San Francisco at Sugar Cafe, where we had some coffee and heard some fantastic stories of his days racing in Europe.
In recognition of all he has done to promote the sport of cycling in the US and around the world in both his racing career and now as a television correspondent and author of two warmly received cycling memoirs, we were very pleased to present him with a DOXA SUB 1000T Divingstar.
